With one of the first flights in the morning I left for Biarritz via Paris. At the airport I was welcomed by Heather and Brian who had arrived from the UK. Good for me they had figured out how to get to Hendaye by bus. It was a rather hot and sunny day. In Hendaye we went to the beach to get our feet into the warm Atlantic water. Now we could start hiking. First stop was the former casino by the beach. Here is the official start of GR 10. Being already early afternoon we began hiking. We walked through town and went off the trail to do some shopping at a Carrefour supermarket. Brian and I got alcohol for our stoves and all of us something to eat. Sitting outside the store we had our lat dinner.

After dinner we really started. At first along roads with many short but steep climbs. Than some gravel tracks until we reached the intended site for the night. Behind a water tower and out of sight we set up camp. Being a hot day and no rain to be expected over night there was no need for a tent it was cowboy camping.
