E1 Italy Cittaducale - Passo del Bocco

VIb.1    Section Cittaducale - Colle de Meglo   32 km

The day before we had traveled from Bedonia by bus to Borgo Val di Taro. Here we got unto a local train to Parma. In Parma we continued our ride south by long distance train to Orte. Here we got another train that took us to Terni where we arrived rather late in the evening. The hotel was near the railroad station and we soon retired for the night.

Early in the morning we got unto a train again for the ride to Cittaducale. Here we picked up the E1 but now hiking north back to Passo del Bocco instead of south. From the station we climbed a long staircase to reach the town. This was an interesting old town with many nice buildings.

The trail passes through the old part and leaves by an old tower. When walking through the following new part of town we came by a mobile fruit and vegetable on flat back of a truck. After a short while we passed by the roman thermes at Vespasiano. We could only see them from outside the fenced in area. It was unfortunately closed. Further along at Cantra we met a shepherd who guided his sheep through the outscirts of town to take them to new pastures. While it had been nice with even some sunshine until lunch it started raining in the afternoon. Subsequently we stopped earlier than planned and set up our tents in the rain.
