E1 Italy Cittaducale - Passo del Bocco

VIb.10    Section Val di Ranco - Scheggia   27km

This section we had sunshine most of the day. We started off through a forest of still bare old groath beech trees along a gravel road. The trail staid below the ridgeline and did cut across some steep forested slopes. We had plenty of very good views across the country. Then we came by the Rifugio Mainardi located at Pian delle Macinare. As it was still early we did not even go to it to check whether it would be open today. The large open meadow whith many picnic tables by the road is in summer a well visited destination. This time of the year we were on our own.

It got realy warm during the day. We stopped for lunch somewhere along the trail. Finally we arrived at Scheggia. The local supermarket only opened at 4:30pm leaving plenty of time to spent in town. We had a second lunch sitting outside in the sun at a bar. As it was hot by now we had cold drinks and pieces of cake. Eventually the small store opened. Many customers had been waiting together with us outside looking for some shade. Once we where re-supplied we moved on out of town. A few kilometers on we found a good spot for the night cowboy camping.
