We started early after a peacefull night. This became a really warm day with up to 30°C in the sun. First part we followed the trail along a gravel road to Gubbio. The trail was easy to hike. Here at Gubbio we decided not to follow the E1 but instead the parallel road. The trail was marked as a red trail on our maps and we had had enough difficulties with these sofar. The road was below the ridge line and evenso it is paved it had hardly any traffic. It was a nice and easy hike.
In late afternoon we came to the second river of the day. The marked trail included fording the river. After a good look at the ford we decided against crossing the river. Instead we took a slight detour crossing on a roadbridge. The climb out of the valley started along another road. Soon the GPS-track made us to climb along a red trail. Well there was no trail. It was a steep climb checking the GPS again and again to ensure we hiked where we should. It took us a long time to get to the top where we arrived at the start of a gravel road. Here we found a good place to set up our tents for the night.
