E1 Italy Cittaducale - Fortino

VIc.7    Section Vico nel Lazio - Prato di Camponi   20 km

This was to become a long hiking day. I started early along minor roads and soon reached Collepardo. On I walked along the hardly used road to the monastry Certosa di Trisulti. I stopped for a visit. I had to leave the backpack at entrance under guard. Besides a few visitors coming by car I met two Italians who where hiking with backpacks too. We shortly talked and I moved on. Soon I left the road and continued along narrow trails. Until Colle Rivigine again and again there where no trail markings. Then I had to descent along a small creek. Here was no trail and nos markings. Following the GPS very slowly I climbed down until I reached a small hamlet at the road to Parco Avventura Prato di Campoli. Several times I had to hold onto small bushes to get further down. That was a difficult and slow climb down.

Once I finally reached the hamlet it had become rather late. I rushed along the road. There many no camping signs. Arriving at the parc the E1 leaves the road. By now it had turned 20:00h and it got dark fast. I found a spot under some trees. Having set up the tent I got water from a nearby basin. Back in the tent the thunderstorm tha had followed me arrived. I had to filter the water and than could button up the tent. I had my dinner of bread with ham and cheese before I turned in for the night.

As per maps and GPS track there should be the E1 trail leading down the gulch. It just is not there!
