Flollowing a quiet night I packed up my on the outside slightly wet tent and continued south. Following a road with basically no traffic I arrived before lunch at Fortino. Earlier I had passed by the marked trail to Cerrata. This trail was closed and maintenance was going on. Here in Fortino is currently (2024) the end of the mainland part of E1. There is a short section on Sicily but otherwise I had finished the E1 all the way from North Cape in Norway to here. The weather was fitting for reaching this community, it was sunny and rather warm. At the bar Zurich I stopped for a while for a break with tea and cake. The service staff was from Venezuela and Cuba. I could have a conversation in Spanish.
As there is no marked E1 trail from here to Reggio Calabria I decided to follow more or less the Sentiero Italia.
Trail to Cerreta is closed and will be rebuild
