Following the near cero day in Leer I planned to walk into the Netherlands today. This meant new markings. In the beginning I followed the white E for "Ems Wanderweg" across the river Ems and along its left bank until Weener. Again it was along the dyke with plenty of sheep. The gate crossings where often topped with barbed wire. At the old port in Weener E9 leaves the path "Ems Wanderweg". At the local very friendly tourist office they had never heard of E9 even so it passes almost along their door step. Now the path mostly follows the railway line with rather sketchy white-red markings in westerly direction. Sometimes markings where visible and the map plus the rail way line were very helpful in navigating. In the afternoon I arrived at Nieuweschanz. It was too early to stay for the night so I continued into the Dutch polder. Towards evening a friendly salesman, who honked the horn of his sales truck in front of every other house, gave me the directions to a nice Bed & Breakfast place. Finsterwolde is a bit off the path but the B&B compensated this.
