As within a few days several hundred hikers including myself following their attendance of ADZPCTKO started hiking the PCT I obviously met many during the first couple of weeks; this not only during the day while hiking but at night too. My plans were to enter the High Sierra around mid on June. So I had plenty of time until arriving at Kennedy Meadows. Therefore I only arrived at the postal office of Mount Laguna two days later around lunch. As was true for the remainder of my hike I had my food sent here. I always ordered it from REI, a major outfitter in the US. It was freeze dried food only. I didn't want to carry any extra weight. This food is pre cooked and needs to be soaked in water. This is best done with boiling water. However in hot areas it works with cold water too. It just takes quite a bit longer.

In the morning after staying at Fred Canyon I was reminded of the recommendation to stay overnight "high and dry". Being near a water source, in this case the creek resulted in my sleeping bag being pretty wet on the outside. It took a while in the sun to dry out again. The restaurant at Mount Laguna was specially opened for lunch for us hikers during two days. This was a highly welcome sight for us. No cooking today. I stayed for the night at the campground of Mount Laguna. As it was still possible to be freezing at night the water was turned off but in one of the sanitation buildings. So no shower but at least there was water at all.
