I got a ride back to the PCT very early in the morning following the several days of rest in Ashland. I arrived about 30 minutes before dawn. So I had breakfast while standing on the side of the road waiting for enough light to see the trail. And finally I could start. In Oregon less deep valleys and longer more level stretches were ahead. And this became visible by my daily miles. The first night I arrived at the Hyatt Lake Camp Ground. And here a trail angel was waiting for hikers again. We had burgers and breakfast in the morning.
Brown Hut was another small hut mainly meant for winter. PCT was well maintained in this section. But the forest fires became more numerous. It became hazier and we could smell the fires. Fortunately no trail closures were encountered here.
Finally I arrived at Mazama Village in Crater Lake NP. Another package with freeze dried food was waiting for me. Shower and laundry was a welcome refreshment. A larger group of thruhikers was congregating at night. A trail angel was waiting for us. That's a service I can get used to.
