We took the afternoon bus back to High Bridge. Now I carried food for the final stretch into Canada. I had lunch at Stehekin and used the local satellite phone for a call home. This was the final spurt. While getting dark we found a spot for the night a few miles along the trail. This way we could start early in the morning and did not have to wait for the bus. Even so we mostly had sunshine it became cooler due to late season. At Rainy Pass we had a few drops of rain during the night. Whether it stays with a few drops you never know. Of course I had slept cowboy camping stile. So I had to set up my tarp in the night.
Long stretches of the trail were now above tree line. This gave us great views of the country site. And I could see the trail far ahead. We had a camp fire for the last time.
Soon we arrived at the Canadian border. We could hear from a distance the hikers who had arrived ahead of us. I believe we were in total 18 hikers who had a party for finishing the PCT that day. We had drinks and chocolate. Some had carried bottles and cans all the way from Stehekin. Now we had reached our goal. After all the efforts, hardships and fun this was almost a disappointment. No more sleeping under the sky, no more getting up with the first daybreak and no more going to bed with the chickens. And no more walking all day long and getting again and again new impressions. One more night and the next morning remained. And then we were waiting for the Greyhound bus at Manning Park. There was just enough space for all of us in the bus to Vancouver.
Plenty of haze at Stehekin
It might be named Rainy Pass but we only had a few drops of rain and otherwise nice weather with sunshine
