Appalachian Trail (AT)

9    Connecticut         51 miles / 82 km

While toweling myself off following a refreshing swim in a small lake in Connecticut I noticed that it had caught me. Borreliosis or Lyme disease as it is named in the US. Luckily it was at the front of my upper body. Clearly circles that are locally known as bull's eye were quite obvious. The disease transmitted by ticks has been spreading from New Jersey up to Massachusetts in recent years. And in New York the trail was poorly maintained some parts grown over. Here the ticks are waiting for us unsuspecting hikers. In Kent I went immediately to a doctor to get a prescription for antibiotics. A few days later I took a several day break in Salisbury at a very nice hotel with acceptable hiker rates. I grew restless and moved on again. Thanks the timely diagnosis and treatment with antibiotics later test at home confirmed that I was completely cured.
