The Long Trail starts at the state line. It runs together with Appalachian Trail until just short of Sherburn Pass. The Long Trail runs north - south through all of Vermont. The southern part until separation from AT is nice to hike. I have been told that the northern part is more a climbing then a hiking trail. I finished this year's hike at Bennington. In town there are plenty of colourfully painted moose. There is a moose festival once a year. I took the Greyhound bus on my way home.
Just like I had left I returned by bus to Bennington. From here my hike continued north. In New England it becomes obvious why it is named so. Most of the places left and right off the trail have names from Great Brittan. Until Sherburn Pass the trail follows a long ridge. Now it turns off in easterly direction. When crossing the Connecticut River I arrived at Hanover in New Hampshire.
