At the hostel we were four people in a ten bed room. I had an extensive breakfast early at 7 am at the hostel allowing an early start of the day. I walked through town to be back on E1 which follows river Ticino. Near town I met many jogger and dog walker on the treeless levee. Once I got away from town it became more shady. That became very helpful as it turned out to be a very hot day. Until Biasca the E1 always runs near the river; sometimes on the left bank, sometimes on the right bank.
The trail was easy to walk and had very little inclination. Several times I met other hikers going south. In Biasca at the Migros I had a welcome break. In Pollegio the trail leaves the valley floor. Here I encountered a large group of hikers. Now it was steeply uphill for the rest of the day starting with stairs and then continuing with many switch backs. Here I saw a group of goats with bells right next to the trail. Up here I had reached the Strada Alta. After passing Corecco and before arriving at Diganengo I found a good spot for the night.
