Following a quiet night in an 11 people room with only 3 cyclists plus me and an extensive breakfast I started the day. Upon crossing St. Gotthard Pass I was now hiking in the German speaking part of Switzerland. Soon I arrived in Andermatt. Here I saw the Glacier Express, an cog wheel train who leaves the town in many switch backs. Soon after passing Andermatt it became tight. In Gorge Schöllenen is hardly enough space for river Reuss, road and railway. Nevertheless Switzerland makes it working. In addition the E1 passes there.
There where extensive road works lasting for several years in the gorge. Amongst others hikers have to climb up/down a metal spiral staircase. This will be hard to navigate for cyclists. Then E1 runs on top of a railway roofing. Here the tracks shall be saved from rocks and ravines. Near Häderliss Bridge I was caught by another shower. I took cover under an road bridge and made my lunch. When moving on I saw many white water canoeists. Beyond Göschenen the motorway came out of the Gotthard Tunnel. It got rather noisy. I could watch long queues on the Autobahn.

In Reuss Valley E1 runs on top of railway tracks.
There is a stone bridge across river Reuss since 1649 named Häderlisbridge. Following flooding it was rebuilt in 1991.
