I was the only guest at the farm. I started early without breakfast to get some miles under my belt before it would get warm again. At the coop in the town of Erstfeld I had my breakfast. From here I followed river Reuss until reaching Lake Vierwaldstätten. At the town of Flüelen the trails character changes. It follows the lake; but not at the waters bank. Instead it goes up and down in the steep hillsides till vertical cliffs. I could see a number of passenger boats on the lake. Even some paddle wheelers. Partly the trail follows the old road and passes through several tunnels. One of the tunnels came in handy as I could take cover during a downpour.
In Sisikon I reached the lake shore again. Here starts a long ascent until coming up below mountain Stoos. Of course every ascent is followed by a descent. This one is along roads until reaching the town of Schwyz. Here I bought some supplies. Towards end of the day it was uphill again. In the beginning on paved roads, then gravel roads. Finally it became a real trail again; and now the rain started again. It began slowly but soon got stronger. And this together with a thunderstorm. I had to put on my rain jacket. I could not make it all the way until Haggenegg as I had hoped for. Directly adjacent to the trail I found a forester hut. It has wide porch. Here I planned to wait out the rain. But it didn't stop. I decided to stay under the porch for the night. It was the right decision. The thunderstorm lasted well into the night.
Near Attinghausen E1 runs through this pedestrian tunnel which is lighted on demand.
