IVc.1    Section Hamburg-Blankenese - Buchholz i. d. Nordheide 32 km

Blankenese

Cranz                  Fähre

Neuenfelde            km

Fischbek               km

Buchholz               km

Early in the morning by train to Blankenese and then with quick steps down to the river bank. Here I caught the Elbferry to Cranz on the south bank. This section is tripartite. The first part leeds through fruit orchards in the so called "Altes Land". This is fen country near the river Elbe. Many ditches cross this area. And as a cultural highlight the walk passes by the church in Neuenfelde. Inside is a famous organ from Arp Schnittger. Then we climb to Fischbeker Heide (heather) which is moraine country. Here is another glider airfield, but with much less trafic then at Boberger Dünen. The gliders are lifted by rope. The third part leeds through forests all the way until Buchholz. Memorable is the Karl's stone (Karlstein), only a few steps from the walk. The nearby Restaurant Karlsteinschänke inticed me to have a cup of tea with cake. In the evening I arrived at Buchholz to take the train back home.
