I was the only one having breakfast at the hostel. After a short walk I arrived at the town of Willingen. To my surprise there were still remnants of snow at the skiing run. Thats not what I had expected. Shortly after leaving Willingen I passed by Northrhein-Westphalia's highest mountain. No, not Kahler Asten but Langenberg is at 843m the highest mountain. The border to Hesse crosses its top. Towards afternoon I could see Kahler Asten from the distance. Here too some snow patches were visible. The good weather staid with me for most of the day. I walked mostly in the sun along the well maintained trail. Once I arrived at the top of Kahler Asten I could see some showers in the distance. All day long I only met one other hiker. It is very early in the hiking season. Following extensive renovation the hostel at Kahler Asten was only open again since one day ago. I was the first hiker. Besides me only a company staid there for some training. My room was rather posh with a very nice shower.
