E1 Italy Porto Cerezio - Passo del Bocco

VIa.11    Section Monte Brignone - Cavella   28km

The rain had stopped over night so we started early today. We followed the marked E1 for a while until reaching Castagnola. Here we turned unto the road leading into the valley at Bargo Fornari. After a few kilometers we left the road and followed dirt trails to Lake Lago della Busalletta. Part of it was acceptable hiking but the last bit turned out to be rather difficult to get along. There where far too many leaves on the downward leading trail. This made it rather difficult to walk as we could not see what lay under the leaves. But then we eventually arrived at the lake and took the road down to Busalla. From here we took the road to Casella which runs parallel to E1. Difference being the trail follows the mountain ridge while the road runs in the valley. In the beginning the road turned out to be rather busy. While it had been sunny most of the day it started raining when we where standing in the town square just short of moving on to Passo della Crocetta di Orero to be back on E1. Instead of hiking on we decided to stay in town and found lodging at Porcella Crocevia del Sale. For dinner we went to the local pizza restaurant. The pizza tasted very good.
