E1 Italy Porto Cerezio - Passo del Bocco

VIa.12    Section Cavella - Passo della Scoffera   27km

Once we had breakfast we left our lodging and walked up to Passo della Crocetta di Orero. Much nicer hike than it would have been last night in the rain. Today turned out to be partly overcast with plenty of sunshine. At the pass we soon found us hiking a real trail for most of the day. The trail basically follows the crest; sometimes right on the crest, sometimes below along very steep slopes. At Monte Alpe we stopped for lunch sitting in the sun. We had a great view down to Genova and the Mediterranian Sea. We could see several ships sailing by. As I have hiked the E1 over the years all the way from North Cape with it's icy waters of the Barent's Sea, the calm waters of the Baltic Sea I could now see the trails southern waters.

After lunch we moved on along the ridge line of the Ligurian Alps. It was a tough day of hiking. The trail had too many ups and downs. As the E1 now follows the Alta Via dei Monte Liguri we met a couple of hikers. As has been the case from the start in Italy it continued to be well marked. Just short of Passo della Scoffera we found almost at the top of Monte Spina (984m) a spot for the night and set up our tent.
