This was a very windy night. Instead of following the E1 we decided to go straight down from the monastry. It started along a road until arriving at a house. Here we hat to cross a fence and going down across fields before arriving at a road again. The road led us into Vignole Borbera. Along a mayor road going under the motorway, across river Scrivia and finally under the railroad we where back on E1. Here in Arquata Scrivia we re-supplied and went to a bar for some hot beverages and cake and most important recharging our phones.
When we left town it got darker and darker. The trail climbed up and up into the mountains. Soon it started raining which got very strong. The trail got muddy and we got wet. At an intersection near Monte Brignone we found a roofed picnic table. Of course we stopped. After scraping at the dirt we had enough space for both of us cowboy camping under the roof. We dried out and had dinner. The time until sleeping was spent with planning the following day, talking and reading until it got dark for the night.
