VIb.13    Section Bocca Serriola - Pian della Capenna   29km

After breakfast we washed our dishes and cleaned up the place so it looked like when we arrived. Todays hike started in the clouds again. However it staid dry until lunch. E1 follows the ridge either right on top or a bit lower along steep slopes. When staying on top it often was a narrow ridge with just enough space for the trail and steep slopes on either side. All along it is an almost constant up and down. After a short while we ran into a recently logged area. The trees where still laying everywhere across the trail. As it was still dry we slowly got across this section. For our lunchbreak we stopped somewhere along the trail; and not too late.

Then the rain set in. It was not just rain but a heavy thunderstorm too. Hiking became much more difficult. The ground got muddy with plenty of puddles and in places very slippery. Towards evening we arrived at the Rifugio Plan della Panella. Here we got a room with dinner. A big fire was set up at the fireplace. Besides us several other hikers where staying over night. This was the only rifugio we encountered that was open.
