E1 Italy Cittaducale - Passo del Bocco

VIb.28    Section Monte Belfiore - Rio Bianco   33km

It rained all night. I packed up in the rain and continued going north. Until lunchtime I hiked mostly in the clouds with plenty of rain. I staid all day as low as possible and avoided the exposed E1 on the ridge line. The Albergo Carpe Diem at Passo die Pradarena was closed. Luckily I found a dry place under the house where I staid for lunch. It was so cold and wet I could hardly use my hands to open the backpack and to get to my food. Shivering I moved on following the E1 until Passo di Cavorsella. Here I decided to stay low and not up along the open ridge line.

I finally arrived at the village Cerreto Laghi. This place was closed but for one bar. It seems to be open mostly in winter with ski lift up to Monte la Nuda. The whole mountain was invisably in the clouds. At the bar I had a great hot cup of tea and some cake sitting near the stove and slowly warming up again. The owner called ehead to Camping Rio Bianco to confirm that it was open. The paved road took me to the campground where I did not set up my tent but instead got a cabin. A nice shower later I finally felt really warm again. The restaurant at the campground was open for staying guests only.
