E1 Italy Fortino - Reggio Calabri

VId.21    Section Gambarie - Reggio Calabria   28 km

This became my last hiking day. When exiting Gambarie I came by a large bill board showing the town in winter with snow. With increasing temperatures due to our climate crisis snow will be here rather scarce. The hiniking start was rather cool passing through forest. Then I mooved into the open. Here I met rather high rising farn. Along the road there were again and again signs reminding drivers of the 1,50m distance from cyclists when passing. During the day I had more and more views of the Sicilian valcano Aetna. Once I could see Reggio it became partly very steep downhill. Shortly before arriving at Santa Domenica at 600m I stopped for lunch in the shade by the road. Then I continued as all morning in the sun. By now it had become really hot. Finally I arrived at Reggio and reached my booked appartment.

I staid for two days and visited the town. Of course I had to put my feet into the warm Mediterranean Sea. Finally I made a short trip by boat to Sicily. The E1 passes through the town of Messina on Sicily. Then I said ciao to Italy and flew homw.
