E1 Norway Abisko - North Cape

Ia.4    Section Magerøysundet - South of Vardancohka   23 km

The wind had died down over night. Therefore I could following a quiet night at River Lafjordelva walk on in sunshine in the morning. Crossing a low ridge I hiked to the sea shore of Vester Lafjorden. I could see a few houses at the bays sea shore. Onwards I walked across the next low ridge named Námmeleaksá partly along the reindeer fence to Kobbefjorden. Then I followed for a while along the sea shore. Seagulls had been very active as many empty sea urchins were laying around. Even more flotsam lay along the shore. Surely one could have equipped a trawler with sufficient balls. At the end of the fjord the trail followed River Austerbotnelv up unto the fjell. All day long the sun should be shining without any clouds.

Around lunch I arrived at the reindeer herder's emergency hut Vardancokka. This really is a very small hut with room for two people. In front of the hut I prepared my lunch in the sun. Continuing I followed the reindeer fence. Later I could see a large reindeer herd. All day long it was again and again very rocky. During the afternoon it became rather windy again. During the day I had not many anyone at all. For the night I selected a level sight in the evening near a small creek. Here I set up my tarp.
