E1 Norway Storlien - Lønsstua

Ic.6    Section Setertjønhytta - Gaunsela 20 km

It had started raining in the evening and it was still raining lightly in the morning. I had to get into my rain gear and started moving on. I walked along the board walk and was very certain it is the right way. When I finally checked my GPS I was completely wrong. The trail had been too easy to walk. I had to turn around and go back. Where the GPS told me to turn off the boards was nothing but untrampelled nature without any markings. I went back to the near by shelter and wanted to talk to the people that staid with me for the night. They had the same problems yesterday and told me how best to proceed. Just going cross country I arrived at a cabin at River Skjælbreia with a barking dog. Soon the owner came out of the cabin and we talked for a while. Building material for these cabins in the middle of nowhere is either flown n by helicopter in summer or brought in by snow mobile in winter. They gave me some advice where to cross River Skjælbreia which I followed.

Reaching the other shore it was allmost lunch time. Still in view of Lake Skjækervatnet I had lunch as it had stopped raining. After lunch I could finally start moving on and make some progress. Later I saw a herd of reindeer not too far away. Noticing me they started getting away. There was no trail all day and I had to navigate many boggy areas. Towards evening I encountered some 4wheel drive tracks from farm Gaundalen which I followed for a while. I stopped around 8 pm and set up my tarp near river Gaunsela. With these many water sources all day long most of the days I carried very little water. I went to the river to get water which I dutyfully filtered to prepare dinner and thereafter went to bed.
