Ic.20    Section Pantalsklumpen - Grannes 11 km

Soon after starting today I had the first glimpse of Grannes. I still had to climb down quite a bit until arriving at River Skardmodalselva. It started rocky but soon became boggy and wet before I came into the forested valley. The trail passes by an old former forest worker cabin. The last Lapp resident left the building due to poor health in 1982. From here I had to follow a forest road until reaching the steep access to the pedestrian bridge across River Skardmodalselva. Without the bridge it would have been difficult to get across. It was rather deep and fast running. On the other side of the bridge a real well maintained trail took me to the road.

Less than a kilometer along the road and I arrived at Grannes CG. The owner gave me a cabin. As he speaks no English it was an interesting conversation. But he understood that I needed a ride to Hatfjelldal for re-supplying at the local coop. I can't have been the first to enquire how to get there. He offered to take me there and off we went in his car. What a fantastic service. He did some shopping too at two different stores. I got everything I needed. The sunshine dried up my boots for a dry start tomorrow morning. Later I had a nice shower and hand washed a few items. I walked over to his house to pay for my stay and the ride to town. All he wanted was payment for the cabin and would not accept any pay for the trip to Hatfjelldal. What a kind host. Back at the cabin my dinner consisted of buttered bread with slices of ham and green tea.
