Braunsberg / Braniewo                       10 km

This was to be my last day out. Early in the morning I took the first bus back to Kahlberg / Krynica Morska and upon arriving walked to the harbour. One of the passenger boats mooring there wanted to go to Frauenburg / Frombork; provided there are enough passengers. The chances were rather bleak in the beginning. Slowly more and more people arrived and at the same time the number of required passengers declined. Finally we started. On board I learned that the day before not enough people showed up for a tour. In Frauenburg / Frombork I went straight to the Cathedral Hill, the place Nicolaus Copernicus worked as canon. From the tower there is a great view across the lagoon and land. After leaving the town the path runs along the road to Braunsberg / Braniewo. After crossing a creek and arriving at a parking lot on the right side of the road the path turns of on the left. Soon it crosses the railway tracks and follows along the forests edge. Upon passing an old farm house it continues until reaching a paved road. This road leads to the right into Braunsberg / Braniewo. Passing the cathedral it finally arrives at the railway station. This is the end of E9. Continuation into the Russian part of East Prussia (Oblast Kaliningrad) is unfortunately not possible. Everything is closed in the station. There is a daily sleeping car coming from Königsberg / Kaliningrad and going to Berlin. I was lucky and got the last available compartment and had to pay in Euro; not in Polish Zloty.
