Following an early breakfast I started out. It became a hot day and I had to climb out of the valley along a paved road with little shade. Along the road well out of town I met a lady from Venecuela. She lived at a nearby camp for asylum seakers. We talked for a while in spanish. She was apparently the only spanish speaker at the camp and very happy to be able to talk to someone in her native tong. Eventually I reached the point where I had to decide whether to walk on the left or right side of Lake Feforvatnet. Along the left side the trail goes across Mountain Gråurda climbing about 500 meters and along the right side the trail follows gravel roads with little climbing. I decided to take the gravel roads. It turned out to be a good decision. Not only did I avoid the climb in the sun but I had a big surprise waiting for me.
Approaching Fefor Højfjellshotell I could hear bagpipe music. I didn't think much about it until arriving at the hotel. It was Saturday and this weekend the International Highland Games were held at the hotel. I learned it was an annual event with participants from across Europe and North America. They had the typical scottish sports activities like rock lifting and throwing real hammers. And then of course a bagpipe band. The musician came from Oslo but included only one Norwegian. The other players came from the UK living in Norway. They joined me for lunch we consisted of various types of cakes and green tea.
Eventually I moved on following the gravel road. By now clouds had started moving in making hiking much more comfortable. Finally I arrived at Dalseter Høyfjellshotell where I staid for the night.
