Following a lengthy layover in Newark I arrived in San Diego after night fall. Now I had two days to adjust to California time with a difference of nine hours from home. Two pieces of equipment were waiting for me at the hotel. Lightweight rain chaps and an Ursack for my food. The chaps are to be used when raining together with my poncho tarp. Chaps are two legs that are held together with a belt. Only missing were my down jacket and down trousers. I had ordered them through the outfitter Adventure 16. Both items are for cool evenings at camp und cold nights inside my sleeping bag. This way the sleeping bag would keep me warm even when freezing at night. It worked as planned during the thruhike. Finally I bought at a hardware store denatured alcohol for my alcohol stove.
I still had some time left for sightseeing and relaxing. During the last evening I met the fellow hiker who was going to take me along for the ride to the border. A last night in a hotel bed and the adventure was about to start.
