Pacific Crest Trail (PCT)

02    Campo - Lake Moreno  - 20 miles

Southern terminus (Campo)

Lake Moreno                                  20 miles

Very early in the morning we went by car to the PCT's southern terminus near Campo. No sooner we had left the car it started drizzling. And it was to drizzle on and off most of the day. This was to become the wettest day of my hike for a long time. Only once during the whole hike did it rain longer and heavier. Having taken the obligatory photos we soon started with our adventure. This being the first day I actually covered too many miles. I should have started slower. But I had planned to arrive at the annual kick off at Lake Moreno. A short lunch break at Hauser Creek coincided with the end of rain and the start of sunshine. Not yet having mailed my bounce box I still had to carry a lot of extra weight. I arrived at the camp ground in the early evening. Following some waiting time at the reception a camping site was assigned. Being an aspiring thru hiker I got a blue bandana with the complete trail printed on.
