Colorado Trail

05    Salida - Twin Lakes    107 km

There was a phone number for rides to the trail at the hostel. He agreed to give us and some other hikers a ride in the morning. We started at the Angel of Shavano trailhead. The day started sunny but soon turned to be cloudy. We encountered a number of hikers on the way to Durango. It included an interesting guy from Düsseldorf in Germany. We stopped for the night about five miles short Mt. Princeton Hot Springs Resort. The plan was to get there for a nice breakfast similar to what I had there two years ago. And that is what we did. Again it soon became cloudy and the weather forecast for the next few days is very bad. We had to stop early when the rain started around 4 pm. And it was non stop until well into the night.

Everything was wet in the morning. We had to make up our mind whether to move on or going to Buena Vista. We decided on going into town. Here we bought some re-supplies. Next morning we got a ride to Twin Lakes. The little red cabin next to the store was gone. What a pity.
