The first part leading to Hermannsburg runs parallel to river Örtze almost straight ahead through a forest. Information tables on geological and biological subjects are placed along the path. Within Hermannsburg and directly after the path runs parallel with "Heidschnuckenweg", this is marked with a white H on black, differently then described in the Kompass trail guide. Along the bank of river Örtze E1 passes through the centre of Hermannsburg. Instead of following the paved Niedersachsenweg (Lower Saxoni Path) it goes in easterly direction from the sports and riding area towards Misselhorn Heath. This is a long and narrow stretch of heath arching towards Tiefental. Thereafter it continuous until reaching Angelbecks ponds.

This area burned down in 1975 in one of the biggest wild fires in Germany. After 35 years everything is reforested and all fire marks are gone. From here on the path continues as described in Kompass. I could refill my drinking water resources at the restaurant Dehninghof. At Wildecker ponds, a birders paradise, I had my lunch break and prepared my hot meal. I continued in forested areas on sandy roads. Short of Scheuen E1 is bordered by a military training ground with a rifle range which could be heard for miles. Past Scheuen I crossed a glider airfield. From here on it was on paved roads until Celle. I left E1 to walk to Celle railway station for the return ride to Hamburg. All in all it was a great four day walk.

Misselhorn Heath is likely the last major area of heath where E1 passes through
