Having camped near the river my tarp was wet in the morning. So I had to dry it in the sun during the day. After a few steps I entered Wutach Gorge. This was one of the nicest parts of the whole hike. The trail follows the river. Sometimes the trail was cut out of vertical cliffs. Some short stretches even had a security steel rope as a hand rail. It was nice and cool and I met no other hikers. From former British Spa Bad Boll only the former chapel remains. It is currently undergoing restoration. The main building burned down in 1975 and the final chapter of the spa was finished. Now there is only a rest area for hikers. Immediately after Bad Boll the trail was moved to the other shore. In March 2017 a section of the slopes had collapsed and destroyed the trail.
Here I met the first other hikers. Soon their numbers increased. They came from further upstream at Schattenmühle which can be reached by car. Here I had an apple strudel. The waitress was dressed in typical Black Forest attire. Strange but if it helps the business. On I went up the river. I had lunch in the sun at the river bank. Short of Lenzkirch E1 follows a former railway line. Today I had the first view of Feldberg the highest mountain of the Black Forest. In the afternoon clouds came up. Towards evening I arrived at the camp ground in Schluchsee. After having had a shower and my dinner a thunder storm arrived. I had seen and heard it for a while. Now it started raining. Inside my tarp it was nice and dry and the rain drops made a nice sound.
