VIb.3    Section Posta - Civite   30 km

This became another day with plenty of rain. Most of the hike was along paved roads. We followed the by-road next to the motorway until we reached the turnoff at Pallottini. Now we followed the road to Cittareale. After walking a few hundred meters we came to the Bar Silvana. We stopped to get out of the rain and warm up with warm drinks. On we went until reaching the turnoff to Conca. Here was a covered bus stop. Again out of the rain we stopped and had our real lunch.

Moving on we passed by the old town of Cittareale which is perched on a hill off our road. As we wanted to see the town of Norcia and to cut off a few kilometers we continued north along the road instead of following the E1 GPS-tracks. The road took us eventually to the hamlet of Civita at 1171m. The higher up we came the more the rain turned into snow. First it was just snowflakes. Then it even staid on the ground.

Steady had booked us online a room at the nearby Agritorismo La Valle dei Bronzetti. My cellphone contract only allows voice and texting. To go online I need WIFI. We could have continued along the paved road but instead decided to take a shorter gravel raod. Well, this turned out to be rather difficult climb down as it was rather slippery and muddy from all the rain. Eventually we reached the bottom and across a long meadow arrived at the place. A nice hot shower refreshed following the rainy day. Then we had a very good four course meal which was very tasty and filling.

Coming down to lower elevations we can see the snow on the higher mountains
