It was a bit hazy in the morning. Until arriving at Castellafiuma it was an easy walk in the narrow valley. Then I had to climb out of the valley following a red trail. The start was hard to find. Where it should have started the mountain side had come down and of course there was no trail left. Further along the road I tried out a narrow trail. It was partly wett and slippery. With many switch backs the trail went uphill. Further up I encountered several pack horses fully loaded with tree branches. Without guide they went downhill to the road. Further up I met a man who loaded more horses. On and on it went up the mountain side. Finally I arrived at a dirt vehicle track. Now I made much more progress. It had become sunny by now and I saw two deer.
Towards evening I arrived Rifugio Campo Ceraso at 1561m. Of course as had been last year in Northern Italy the case it was closed. At least I could refill my water at a water tank. I went on to Passo Monna della Forcina (1580m) where I set up my tent in a beech forest.
