Following a quiet night I started along roads with hardly any traffic to San Marco. Once arriving I stopped at a bar. Sofar it had been rather warm. Now I followed a paved road between some houses to the end. Only a noisily barking dog disturbed the peace. From here I followed a sandy road uphill along the creek. At the end of the road it was lunchtime. There was a spring allowing me to refill my water bottles once I started again. The hiking trail CAI 521 continues uphill in the valley with black berries left and right. Only the last bit of hiking before arriving at another dirt road was more difficult. I had to climb across several barbed wires. Until now I had crossed the creek a few times. Having arrived at the top the air was a lot cooler than down in the valley. Shortly before arriving at the spring Masseria Calabrese I met a local farmer. As he had lived for a while in Stuttgart he spoke good German.
Towards evening I arrived at the Ospitalità Rurale Casa Del Peraino at 1246m elevation. The place looked impressive but of course was closed. Now the trail deteriated until I came to Località Male Mursiello. At an elevation of 1481m I found an exceptable place for my tent. There was a water tank for cattle. It was fenced off well. This did not bother me. That was a mistake as I should find out during the night.
