Today I had planned to re-supply at the local supermarket. To get there I had to walk back the paved road to the center of Masi. The store was to open at 10:00 am. I arrived shortly before opening hour and saw a van delivering papers and bakery goods. Then it became opening time and nothing happened. Cars showed up, people got out, found the store closed and left again. Much later the owner showed up at a window from his apartment above the store. He seemed to have a hangover and claimed today would be Sunday and the store is closed. I told him it is Monday but he just got away from his window. I kept waiting. Later we were seen from another window. That was it. I talked to some locals who said this was not the first time that the store was not opening. This was the only store in town and I was out of food. Considering my options and having heard from north bound hikers that the section to Kautokeino was partly along the main road and the other part not really interesting I finally decided to go straight to Kautokeino. I waited until 11:00 am before returning to my cabin. I packed up my stuff, had lunch at the restaurant and inquired when the local bus to Kautokeino would be running. It turned out to be late in the afternoon.
Not wanting to hang around that long I went to the main road hoping for a ride. After a while I got a ride for half the way I had to go. A second driver took me all the way to the campground where I took another cabin. Next day I went shopping for the next section into Finland. The local hardware store hat a good selection of freeze dried food and all was set for leaving after a day of rest. Here I met several cyclists on there way to North Cape.
