E1 Norway Umbukta - Abisko

Ib.8    Section Balvatnet - Sulitjelma   31 km

Today I had planned to arrive at Sulithelma. I had started early and continued along E1. From Lake Balvatnet morning fog was rising. Luckily there is a bridge crossing River Rosnaelva. Then I arrived on a side trail the damn of Lake Balvatnet. There are quite a number of vacation homes as the road from Sulitjelma terminates here. The parking lots where very well filled. Also a number of boat trailers where parked. A small information house from the national park I had just passed through is here too. From here I followed the gravel road to the near by shelter Coarvihytta. By now the sun had come out from hiding behind the clouds. As I had decided to head directly to Sulitjelma I left E1 and continued along the gravel road. There is very little car traffic. The last bit of hiking was along a paved road. In the evening I arrived at the camp ground of Sulitjelma where I spent the night. Before I was permitted to stay I had to fill out a questionnaire about my hike. Sulitjelma is the first town in Norway along E1 when coming in the other direction from Sweden. Due to corona no one was allowed to enter Norway from Sweden. The host had to be certain I did not come from Sweden. Otherwise I would have been sent straight back (with police??).
