E1 Norway Umbukta - Abisko

Ib.14    Section Ritsem - Hukejaure   28 km

All morning I hiked along a gravel road to Sitasjaurestugan. There are hardly any ascents along the road and only one car passed by. The hut is situated at Lake Siidasjávri with a number of Sami houses nearby. Here I stopped for lunch. The sun was shining all morning. The host was away and with a note at the door had invited anyone wanting to stay inside. I cooked my meal in the sun. While eating another hiker came by. From here it was a steep ascent up unto the Fjell. The trail to Hukejaurestugan follows an all wheel track. When crossing wet meadows there are wooden boards for the vehicles. Up on the fjell it started drizzling. Here I met a group of Sami installing boards across a wet area. Finally the track went downhill to a well visible Sami village. I continued to Hukejaurestugan from here on along a trail. I had to get across several creeks. The bridge across one of them was completely gone. Only the foundations on both shores where still standing. Luckily an emergency bridge was set up. The trail was again and again wet and boggy. Short of Hukejaure Fjellstugan I stopped for the night. I set up my tarp with a nice view of Lake Kaisejaure.
