E1 Norway Storlien - Lønsstua

Ic.2    Section Angeltjønhytta - Ferslia 0 km

At the DNT hut Angeltjønhytta I considered my options. Time for self medication was over. I wanted to see a doctor and get really cured. The shelter has no road access. The nearest places are going back or moving on to the next shelter which has road access. Then two Norwegians arrived at the shelter. They where marking a forthcoming mountain marathon (The Meråker Mountain Challange Ultra) and had arrived by boat from across Lake Fjergen. There they had parked their car. I told them my plight and asked where the nearest doctor was. They started phoning friends and soon had a plan. They would take me back by boat and their car to Meråker. There a taxi would be waiting for me for a drive to the hospital in Stjørdal for the nearest doctor. I gladly accepted this soon I arrived at the waiting taxi. I was driven to the hospital where they already new that I would be coming. We arrived after midnight and after an examination I left the hospital just past 2:00 am.

The diagnosis was diarrhoea and beginning dehydration. They prescribed some medicine which I bought next morning at a pharmacy and not hiking for the next few days. I walked to the next hotel and got a room for a few nights. As the Trondheim airport is in Stjørdal there are a number of hotels with for Norway reasonable prices. Next morning I went to a nearby pharmacy and got my medication. The next days I took my medicine, rested, and slowly started eating again. After four nights in town it was time to move on.

I took the evening train to Meraker. The next station is at Hell which is two bus stops away from Stjørdal. At Hell is an often photographed shed announcing "Hell, Gods Expedition". In Norwegian this stands for goods expedition. The train ride lasted for about an hour. I had to tell the conductor where I wanted to leave the train so it would stop for me. Arriving at Meråker I started walking the road to Ferslia thereby trying to get a ride. Soon a car stopped and I was driven for more then 25 kilometres to the hut. There I learned that the driver had been almost home when picking me up. She had to drive it back home once I had left the car. What a trail magic. At the hut I met the German hiker from five days ago. I spent the night at the hut.
