I had paid my stay the evening before so that I could start as usual early in the morning. Yesterday's rain was gone and it staid dry all day. The first kilometres E1 follows a road along Lake Skjeldbreivatnet before moving off onto a marked but hardly trotted trail. Instead of walking the trail from here I followed a parallel running forest road for a while before finally getting onto the trail. It was marked as a winter trail but luckily some 4wheel drive vehicles had used it too. Here despite gaiters I got wet legs and shoes. After a while at Lake Snellsteinvatnet the markings stopped and I had to follow my GPS track. Around lunch I arrived at Kvilltjönhytta which can be rented out from the local county. Several people had rented it and they offered me hot tea and boiling water for my early lunch. They also gave me some advice where to proceed as there would also be no markings from here on for the next few days.
From here on it was mostly tree less with plenty of rocks and wet moors and meadows. In between were a number of lakes. Getting to the shore meant guessing whether to go left or right. More often than not I could not see which lake end was nearer and easier to hike. Well, some you win and some you loose. Towards evening I started going uphill. It was a long slope. At one point I had to make up my mind how to proceed and not to run into a dead end. Finally I got across a ridge with a lake on the other side. There was still a bit of climbing left. Never the less I decided to stay here for the night. It had been a sunny and hot day. After setting up my camp I got a visitor, a reindeer bull with huge antlers stared at me for a while before moving on.
