Danzig / Gdansk                  6 km

During the summer season there are daily several boats from Hela / Hel to Gdingen / Gdynia. As I arrived after the season ended it was totally unclear whether a boat would be leaving today. At the ferry boat kiosk in the port only outdated information was available. And no one else seemed to know anything. The telephone number noted at the kiosk was not working any longer. The only alternative was the train to Gdingen. The next one was not due before lunch. So I had plenty of time to wander around. I went up the light tower for a great view. And all of a sudden out of the blue arrived a boat from Gdingen / Gdynia. That was a lucky break. In the afternoon I crossed the Danziger Bucht / Bay of Gdansk to Gdingen / Gdynia. In Gdingen on the way to the railway station I passed by two tall ships. I took a local train to Danzig / Gdansk and walked to one of the three youth hostels.

The next day was reserved for an extensive sightseeing of Danzig / Gdansk. Additionally I took a local train to Zoppot / Sopot. I went to the rather wide pear with an entrance fee where a marina was under construction. I walked along the beach back to Danzig / Gdansk. A trolley ride took me into the city centre.
