Rembesdalsseter                           21 km

 

I started off as early as the breakfast hours at DNT Finsehytta allowed. The first part followed the Rallarvegen. This is the old maintenance road along the original train line from Oslo to Bergen. It is now used by many cyclist. Than at Norenut the trail left the gravel road leading through a few vacation homes to the bridge crossing River Ustekveikja. From here the trail loops around Glacier Hardangerjøkulen. The trail is most of the time easy to hike. Many snow fields had to be crossed. I had many good views of the glacier. When starting it had been overcast. In the afternoon the sun came out. All was fine until I could see the DNT hut Rembesdalsseter far down the trail. Now it got crazy and had not much to do with hiking. It went down very, very steeply. Often I spent time considering how to continue down. It became partly rather dangerous with wet rockfaces and not much to hold on to. Some places I could not even see where to continue.

 

After a long time I finally got down and continued along the now level trail to the hut. During the summer time there is a host. She assigned me a bunk. A number of other hikers staid there with me for the night.
